Curiosities & Conundrums…

Here I sit staring at the computer screen…. (TODAY IS THE GOSH DAMN DAY….I DON’T CARE HOW MUCH THE PERFECTIONIST IN ME IS NOT READY…TODAY IT IS HAPPENING…FEBRUARY 1st 2017…here goes…), (Anybody else have these inner dialogues with themselves? Is that a getting old thing?), curious if today is the day that I should dive in and start my blog? There’s where the conundrum comes in because honestly, when is the right time to start anything in life? This original draft was written on March 29th, 2016 and here I sit on January 3rd, 2017 & I still haven’t pulled the trigger, or should I say February 1st 2017…how many times have you all done that in your life? Sooo hope I’m not the only one…. the perfectionist in me is a doozie.

My name is Anita Dolores Campo, and today I’m 4 short months away from turning 51. Well, I was–now I’m 51, 6 long months AFTER I’ve turned 51. When the big 5-0 came last year, I mean almost 2 years ago now… I realized what a giant crossroads I was being faced with in my life. Fifty Plus, single, 4 kids ages 31 down to 22 with 3 of them in another state. (Since then my 4th child has also moved to Denver, and they have almost all become a year older) Then, re-entering the retail market after 20+ years of being an Interior Designer, wanting to leave my hometown of fabulous Las Vegas after almost 47 years and not knowing where to go next. Do I turn right, or left? Should I stay or should I go? (The Clash song with the same name pops into my head as I murmur the chorus to myself… something that happens to me quite frequently with song lyrics.)

Everything in my life is a conundrum these days, and all I’m really looking for anymore is happiness with a touch of balance for good measure. Curiosity is something I’ve both been blessed and cursed with for years. Even now at 51, I am curious about the world around me at all times… (part of the reason minutes become hours on damn social media, God forbid my kids are doing something interesting in their lives, I’m hooked), so I have decided to take you on a journey with me while I contemplate life and continue to grow along the way. I will pepper my entries with quotes, (my personal motivation always…), along with beautiful pictures which are my hobby and passion all rolled up into one!! Four beautiful kids with all their dilemmas and joys, being single at 51, which is ohhh so interesting, and my passions in life-like the perfect picture or the design of the perfect room. Here’s my short list of some of the things I have learned so far at 51:

  1. Actually attempt to be as present as possible at all times, especially if you have ADD as bad as I do.
  2. Allow your children to be who they truly and uniquely are
  3. Stop and smell the flowers as often as you can, enjoy the little things
  4. Take walks and listen to the sounds of the day
  5. Let your children give you tips on music, documentaries and things like the Fibonacci Sequence and be forever learning
  6. Enjoy decadent things like $9.00-grain mustard, the best balsamic vinegar money can buy, hand-milled French soap and fresh flowers
  7. Pamper yourself and try to get enough sleep
  8. Keep your creative juices constantly flowing by creating something every day, no matter how small
  9. Travel as often as you can, even day trips to expand your horizons
  10. Be vulnerable and love with all your heart… ALWAYS.

So…since I started this adventure of writing a blog, like magic everything I was contemplating and were real conundrums in my life have materialized…like the universe just aligned everything. Corny I know but wait till I unfold the story & my journey, and you will see what I mean. Crazy! Stay tuned!!!

Here are a few ways I’m feeling today…. Wish these were the only things I was feeling today but today has been an emotional ride….
